The 401 miles (645 km) of Route 66 in Arizona represents "quintessential" Route 66, with its varied landscape and quirky roadside attractions. Williams, Arizona is considered to be the Gateway to the Grand Canyon, which is a 60-mile (96 km) drive, or a 65-mile train ride, north. The last section of all of Route 66 was bypassed in Williams by Interstate Highway 40 in October of 1984.
