The 316 miles (509 km) of Route 66 in California is the most diverse along the Route when you consider this state's mountains, valleys, deserts, ghost towns, living towns, suburbs, cities, foothills, cliffs and beaches. US interstate highways I-40 and I-15 have replaced much of Route 66 in California but the Route runs through numerous connected cities and towns, via surface streets, once it reaches San Bernardino, on the way to the coast.
