Making it to the "End of the Trail" is the goal of every Route 66 enthusiast. There are three endpoints to Route 66 in Santa Monica, California. The most photographed spot is the End of the Trail sign on the Santa Monica Pier which juts out over the water's edge of the Pacific Ocean.
End of the Trail
Route 66 was extended from Los Angeles to Santa Monica in 1935, along U.S. Highway 101A, southwest on Santa Monica Boulevard, then southeast on Lincoln Boulevard for three blocks, ending at Olympic Boulevard. Today, the unofficial "End of the Trail" is a few blocks southwest of there, where Colorado Avenue meets Ocean Avenue, at the entrance to the Santa Monica Pier.
